GRAND PRAIRIE — At this rate, most large venues in North Texas will have hosted at least one food truck festival by the year’s end. For Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, that inaugural event is Monday, May 28 — Memorial Day.
“I’ve personally wanted to do a food truck festival for a couple of years now,” said Kim Bordano, director of marketing at Lone Star Park. She watched horse tracks in California host them for several seasons, but until last year, North Texas hadn’t caught up with the trend. Oh how times have changed.
Lone Star Park’s first food truck fest is noon to 4 p.m. on Monday and takes place in the Courtyard of Champions at the horse track. It’s $5 to get into the park on general admission, but once inside, the food truck festival is free to attend. Veterans with a military ID get into the park for free.
Food trucks in attendance include Coolhaus, the new ice cream truck; Crazy Fish, the area’s first sushi food truck; plus Jack’s Chow Hound; Nammi; and Trailer Cakes Cup Cakes and RockStar Bakeshop for dessert; plus several others. Horse races start at 1:35 p.m. and run until about 5:30 p.m., when the park hosts the WinStar “Win A Million” promotion. Cover band Incognito will perform.
