This week’s Downtown Huntsville Street Food Gathering will feature 39 vendors and a colorful twist.

The food truck rally, scheduled for Friday, May 15, from 6-9 p.m. on Church Street, will be a “blue out” in celebration of the Blue Man Group’s return to the Rocket City, said Downtown Huntsville Inc. CEO Chad Emerson.

Blue Man Group will perform at the Von Braun Center’s Mark C. Smith Concert Hall on March 4-6, 2016.

“We’re going to have loads of blue beach balls and blue Frisbees,” Emerson told AL.com Monday. “There are going to be percussion artists, and the Grotto Lights (in Big Spring Park East) will be blue for the evening.

“The event is still all about getting great street food from the vendors, but these are just some fun little extras.”

Emerson said anyone who shows up Friday night wearing all blue could win a free prize.

Admission to the Downtown Street Food Gathering is free. Along with the blue-themed activities, the band Denim Jawbone will entertain the crowd with live music. There will also be a climbing wall, and Emerson said Rocket Fitness is hosting free outdoor fitness classes in the park at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Church Street will be blocked off between Clinton and Williams avenues, allowing people to roam freely between the two sides of the park.

“Every month, our goal is to add more fun things to see and do,” said Emerson.

While the food truck rally officially starts at 6 p.m., some vendors are set up and serving food as early as 5 p.m.

Emerson said the May, June, July, August, September and October food truck rallies will all have a theme that ties in with an upcoming Broadway Theatre League Performance. Downtown Huntsville Inc. lists Broadway Theatre League as a “collaborative partner.”

Blue Man Group one of six professional live theatre shows in the Broadway Theatre League’s recently announced 2015-16 season. The others are: “Bullets over Broadway,” Nov. 20-22; “The Producers,” Jan. 8-10; “Beauty and the Beast,” Jan. 29-31; “Mamma Mia!” Feb. 19-21; and “The Illusionists,” April 29-May 1.
