Two business owners are taking the cupcake trend down a new path by putting their shop on wheels.
Lee and Andrew Judge are the 28-year-old entrepreneurs who have created Huntsville’sfirst mobile cupcake truck. They call it the Sugar Belle Truck.
In February 2013, the couple traded in their computers and mouse pads for spatulas and mixing bowls. They were inspired to follow their delicious dreams after watchingFood Network’s Ace of Cakes.
“It’s just so much better to be up and moving around instead of sitting all day,” Lee said.
The Judge’s spend their mornings making and baking batters in a rented industrial kitchen space. The amount of cupcakes they bake varies from day to day. On busy days they could make as many as 12 dozen.
“I do all the batters and Andrew does the icing,” said Lee.
“I think my favorite part is eating them,” Andrew said.
Sugar Belle offers 22 different flavors on their regular rotating menu, and that does not including their seasonal and “after five” flavors. (click here to see all flavors)
“If I had to choose [my favorite], it is a tie between the red velvet and chocolate salted caramel,” Lee said.
Creating so many flavors did not come without trial and error.
“We found out the hard way that sweet potato and baking soda don’t mix. And if we don’t have bacon in our weekly rotation, people get mad at us,” Lee laughed.
The Judge’s say their cupcake truck represents how progressive the Huntsville community has become.
“Food trucks are just a simple thing that adds something extra to our city,” said Andrew.
“One of the cool things too is the response from some of the people in the city. They just have helped us with promotion, and changing some of the legislation. So that has been really great,” Andrew said.
Food trucks were not accommodated in downtown Huntsville until the summer of 2013.
Now the Sugar Belle truck has gained so much popularity that the Judge’s are already turning a profit for their new business.
“The community wants us around,” said Andrew.

You can find Sugar Bell’s exact location and daily menu on their Facebook and Twitter page.
“My favorite compliment is when people say that they are the best in town,” said Lee.
The Judge’s have big plans for the future. They hope to add a permanent truck location along with their traveling truck. Their menu is set to expand as well. It will include soft pretzels, mini pies, brownies, cookies, macaroons and gluten free cupcakes. Also, t-shirts will soon be printed so you can help spread the Sugar Belle love.
At $3 for a single cupcake and $5 for two, you’ll need to see for yourself why these little cakes are so beloved. Then you will know why Sugar Bell is just another example of What’s Right in Your Community.
