NYC – Daisy May’s BBQ Cart

By Stef’s Smorgasboard

Are you sick of food trucks yet? Me neither. But just in case you’ve been growing weary, here’s one that’s really worthy your while: Daisy May’s BBQ Cart in midtown NYC. I kept passing it on my way into work as it set up every morning, until I couldn’t resist and visited for lunch.

The menu is drastically smaller than the full Daisy May’s menu, but what can you expect from a truck? And I think they did a good job of choosing bbq big hitters: brisket, pulled pork, chili & bbq chicken. I went for the pulled pork sandwich, and was pretty surprised to be handed my bag of food under a minute later. I peeked into the bag and found a sliced sesame sandwich roll, a small deli container of pulled pork and even smaller deli containers of the sides I ordered: cole slaw and red rice & beans. I took my goods back to the office to assemble … and eat!

I was slightly annoyed about having to put together my own lunch that I bought to be put together for me, but I suppose not as annoyed as I would be eating a soggy sandwich.

And then I took a bite. And all my bad feelings were swallowed right along with the juicy, tender, explosively flavorful pulled pork. I swooned for a minute, and then ran over to my coworker’s desk to share the love. I let her have one bite, then gobbled the rest. It was probbbbbably inappropriate for anyone walking by my desk to watch.

I can’t wait until the weather is warm enough to head back outdoors for some brisket or bbq chicken, because if the rest of the food is as good as that pulled pork sandwich, I think I’ve found my NYC BBQ bliss.
