Despite the chilly temps, April 1 officially marks the beginning of the spring food truck vending season for the Rose Kennedy Greenway (concurrent with the City of Boston). The City's schedule, which was dictated by the food truck lottery earlier this year, runs from April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016.
The Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy today announced a record line-up of 30 food trucks and trikes, including 11 new vendors, 6 of those new food vendor debuts, for the 2015 season of Greenway Mobile Eats.
The City of Boston’s Office of Food Initiatives has, pun intended, a pretty full plate. As popular as various food programs are, and as much as they have grown, I don’t know if they have had much, if any, increased staffing.
The Chubby Chickpea calls their cuisine, “Sephardic Street Fare,” but the term is more poetic than precise. This is classic Israeli road food: hummus, falafel, babaganoush, and grilled meats wrapped in laffa. My dining companions agree that the chicken is juicy and well-prepared. Our side of falafel is tasty, and the hummus substantial. It’s less a spread than a dish of its own.
