City Council voted Wednesday to add the additional parking spot, modifying the original June ordinance that first allowed the trucks at three spots downtown. Twenty vendors have permits from the city to use the locatins.
Councilwoman Laure Quinlivan, who introduced the idea, surveyed participants as well as businesses in the areas around the locations and found all but a few pleased with the program so far. Trucks can park on Court Street, at Fifth and Race streets, adjacent to Sawyer Point parking – and now just south of the Purple People (also known as the L&N Bridge) abutment.
Council also voted to limit the Court Street location to the hours of 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., a change requested by nearby business owners. It also set a 10-day time period for any second-time violators of the city’s vending rules to pay a $200 fine.
Quinlivan will help open the newest spot at 12:15 p.m. Monday.
