El Cerrito residents were in much anticipation the last few days after word got out that the county’s first Off The Grid event would park itself in their city Wednesday night.

And for the most part, they were not disappointed.

Hundreds of area foodies and fans of the mobile food trucks showed up to dine from the 10 trucks lining the closed block of Fairmount Avenue. Choices included fish tacos, pulled pork, barbecue ribs, garlic noodles, gourmet cupcakes and more.

Wednesday’s event was a “soft opening,” to “test the waters” and will follow with an official opening on July 17, reports the Contra Costa Times.

So what did some food fans have to say? The following is a sampling from the El Cerrito Facebook fan page:

Nikki Ramsey Hootman: Bummed Chairman Bao isn’t listed, but I’ll definitely be there

Cathy Swinford: yay!!! sooo happy to see all the trucks right by my house!!! Right on!

Brett Levay-Young: Not enough trucks. People are hungry …

Beth Witonsky Sherry: I think all of El Cerrito was there! Lines were out of sight by 6pm!

Darcy Dowling: We were very excited to go, we showed up around 7 checked out the trucks, and left. Sadly, the lines were just way too long at that point.
