West Bankers stepped out despite the summer heat to enjoy Gretna Food Truck Fest 2015 recently at the Farmers Marketplace in the heart of Old Gretna.

Food trucks, including Diva Dawg, La Cocinita, Crepes a la cart, Ironsides Waffles, Food Drunk and Frencheeze, offered cuisine to die for and locals literally “ate it up.”

“We knew the event was going to be big based upon buzz on social media, but the crowd exceeded our expectations. At one time, we estimated they were 1,400 people there early in the event. The crowd never got smaller until the end despite the heat index over 100 degrees. The overwhelming response was “when are you going to do this again?” said Gretna Councilman Joe Marino III, who served as event coordinator.

“This was our test run and we intend to do this again before the end of the summer.  We are also looking into moving the event to different locations in the City,” he said.

On the hot summer evening, people cooled down with a snowball from Kathy Kona Ice and iced tea and limeade from Raising Cane’s.

Proceeds from wine and beer benefited Gretna Economic Development Association, and proceeds from soft drinks and water went to the Jefferson Parish Recreation Booster Club.

Event T-shirts are still available for sale with proceeds going to Boys & Girls Club West Bank Unit. The tees are $15 each, $2 extra for 2 and 3-X sizes by calling 504.362.9760.

The Gretna Food Truck Fest logo was designed by Manuel Ponce.

DJ “Ed B,” Ed Batiste supplied the entertainment and everyone went home hot and tired, but with a very full stomach indeed.
