There is a misconception that Filipino food is allabout fried and greasy meat, and overly sweet snacks. Not exactly true. City diet is often fried and greasy or overly sweet but the humble folk have more fresh fruit and vegetables in their diet.
This is the tropics, we have no winter, we get fresh vegetables and fruits all year, and we never found the need to develop canning skills.
And the fresh fruits find their way in street food. This ambulant vendor sells sliced fresh fruits which he sprinkles with a little salt to really bring out the fruits’ natural sweetness.
