The city’s Economic Development Department is developing a wide-ranging plan to strengthen ordinances governing food vendors and to implement new fees and initiatives that could have a far-reaching impact on how the city’s thriving mobile food-vending industry operates.

City officials have begun shopping around a proposal to set new rules for New Haven’s booming food-truck industry — including jacking up annual permit fees from $200 to $5,100.

Featuring trucks from throughout the state and Rhode Island — as well as cuisines from Middle Eastern to Irish and from seafood to shaved ice — the festival could satisfy an appetite for just about anything.
