Winnipeggers were challenged to chow down at this year’s ManyFest to help determine the best food truck in the city.
The Food Truck Wars, a new addition to the Broadway street festival, pitted 12 food trucks against each other in a friendly food fight to crown a champion.
However, long lines meant some people waited for up for upwards of an hour to get a taste of the competition. Vendors made big promises to make sure people stuck around.
“Some people said say it’s better than sex,” said Chef Roger LeBleu, about the pulled pork poutine from his truck, Lovely BBQ’s.
“It’s a pretty bold statement,” said a woman trying the dish. “It’s definitely close.”
Veteran foodies strategized to get as much food as possible.
“Everybody separate,” said another festival attendee. “Then come back with the food… Then you don’t have to sit there going from truck to truck waiting.”
Winners, determined by customer votes, are awarded prizes for Most Original, Best Presentation and Best Bang For Your Buck.
The competition wraps up and the champions declared at the end of ManyFest on Sunday evening.
