“Ain’t no party like a grilled cheese party”
Ruthie’s Rolling Café’s tagline is “ain’t no party like a grilled cheese party” and Friday she brought the party to the streets of Dallas in her first public, lunch stop. Serving gourmet grilled cheese, Ruthie’s Rolling Café lunch debut was nothing short of a success, after spending the last few months promoting and introducing herself at private parties and a well attended Food Truck Rally. The line started to form at least fifteen minutes before the scheduled opening, with everyone waiting for their first taste of gourmet grilled cheese. Many, many more continued to line up at a location that was off the beaten path for many; outside the central business district and in an area with more warehouses and showrooms than office buildings, proving that promotion the truck before a roll out is worth the effort. Then general consensus from the customers was that the party was on and the sandwiches were every bit as good as had been promised.
Ruthie’s Rolling Café’s menu is a check box sheet to allow you to build your own grilled cheese sandwich. Every sandwich has the option of four kinds of bread, five kinds of cheese, four meats, six spreads and four toppings. The breads are made by Dallas based Empire Baking Company and are fresh and high quality and toast up to a perfect golden brown. Meats and cheeses are high quality but also traditional: Turkey, Ham, Bacon, Chicken, Cheddar, Swiss, Mozzarella, Pepper Jack and American. The recommended sauce is Ruthie’s Secret Slob Sauce, a barbeque and mayo combination that brings adds to the flavor of any of the sandwiches. The Slob Sauce also available as a dipping sauce. Other sauces include Mustard, Pesto, Mayo or Ranch Dressing. Each sandwich costs $7.50, with extra meat or cheese available for $2.00. In the coming weeks Ruthie’s will also begin offering a Special of the Day.
Ruthie’s Rolling Café is owned by In Any Event, a Dallas party planning company. Because of this association, Ruthie’s is taking its grilled cheese parties to the next level, by offering clients tables and chairs, dj, and photographers. This type of event catering has been well received for In Any Event; Ruthie’s Facebook and Twitter posts report weekly private events.
This new addition to the Dallas food truck scene has brought a level of excitement that rivals that of a party, because really, there ain’t no party like a grilled cheese party.
