As youngsters explore model railroads at Train Days Sept. 14 and 15, the beguiling aroma of mobile food will waft across the Los Altos History Museum’s campus.

A posse of food trucks is scheduled to turn out for the weekend, ranging from the decadent hot dogs of Quick Dog Catering to the fresh, sliced fruit of Mona’s Fruits.

Mona’s slices of watermelon, coconut, cantaloupe and more come with an optional sprinkle of lime, salt or Tajín, a tangy, spicy Mexican fruit-seasoning spice.

Mustache Mike’s pairs a rainbow of syrups with ice to create Italian-style desserts.

Soulnese cooks up a hybrid of Chinese and southern comfort, with offerings like a mac-and-cheese egg roll, prawns wrapped around spicy hot links and Asian-spiced Mama’s Fried Chicken.

Over at Larry Rhett’s Quick Dog stand, look for the Chi-Thai dog, topped with Thai peanut slaw with Chinese hot mustard sauce and sriracha.

“You don’t get an unhappy person coming up to you – when people are hungry and you have some food for them, they’re not in a bad mood,” Rhett said.

His only food-truck etiquette tip: “Basically, don’t eat before you come out. Come hungry.”

Train Days is scheduled 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 14 and 15 at the Los Altos History Museum, 51 S. San Antonio Road.

Admission is $5 per person, free for children under 4.
