With a “Miami Vice” color scheme (hot pink lettering on a black background), Manila Rice makes its debut this evening on the corner of NE 144th Street and Biscayne Boulevard from 6 to 11 p.m. Ted Lederman and Cecille Pangan are partners, both in business and life. When Cecille couldn’t find a Filipino restaurant in Miami that served authentic cuisine, Ted suggested she start a catering business. That idea blossomed into operating a food truck after Ted met Richard Hales from Sakaya Kitchen and Dim Ssam a Gogo.
Manila Rice features authentic Filipino chow, with recipes taken from Cecille’s 74-year-old grandmother, who catered fiestas in the Philippines.
Specialties include Adobo, a one-pot dish made with sauteed meat and vegetables, and Filipino egg rolls. Desserts will include turon (sweet plantains and jackfruit wrapped in an egg roll wrapper and served with chocolate syrup and ice cream) and Halo Halo, a refreshing blend of shaved ice, coconut milk, and fruit.
For now, Manila Rice plans to roll on its own before joining the round-ups, but you can find locations on their Facebook page.
This weekend’s truck schedule finds trucks out west, at Wynwood’s Second Saturday, Bayfront Park, and Tobacco Road.
Friday
TOW (Truckers Out West) has moved to Village Green Baptist Church at 122nd Avenue and Miller Drive for tonight only. Costco on 144th Street and Biscayne Boulevard will be the home of Manila Rice from 6 to 10 p.m.

Wynwood Truckers head out for Second Saturday. Walk the galleries, enjoy music and grab a bite. Trucks officially serve from 6 to 10 p.m., but some stay open later, as crowds permit.
