Despite the way it sounds, Spodee is not something cowboys shout as they throw lassos at their quarry. Well, maybe it is, but in this case it’s also a fortified wine drink from Philly brand Quaker City Mercantile, who make Root and Snap liqueurs. A round up of a different kind it happening this Saturday at The Piazza, where eight different food trucks will gather for a special party.

The hooch is a strong drink – it tastes a lot like chocolate mixed with wine, aka Raisinets – and it’s not for everyone, but it works especially well as an ingredient in food. You’ll get a chance to test out that theory for free on February 23.

From 5 PM on, Mac Mart Truck, Foo Truck, Ka’Chi Truck and five other mobile kitchens will be offering complimentary bites that have been spiked with Spodee. Sample them all and then vote for your favorite to enter in a raffle for a boozy gift bag.

If you do want to try a sip of the spirit (and get out of the chill) Piazza barKing’s Oak is inviting everyone to bring their street food inside, and also offering $5 Spodee cocktails. Our advice: stay away from the OJ mixes and look for something using coffee – it’s the best way to tone down the sweet-but-strong wine.
