San Francisco, CA: Weekend Planner – Burgers, Coffee and Food Trucks by the Bay

By Meesha Halm |

Swing by the up-and-coming Pier 29, aka future home of the America’s Cup sailing races this Saturday to check out the latest outpost of  Off the Grid. Starting this week, the popular mobile food market will be parked along the waterfront for lunch on Thursdays and Saturdays. This week’s four featured vendies (they’ll rotate each week) will be Tres TruckMayo & Mustard,Sanguchon and Kasa Indian but check the website for updates. (1256 The Embarcadero, every Thursday and Sundays, 11AM- 2 PM)

Start your Sunday with a cup of joe or three at 18 Reasons which is hosting an informal single origin coffee tasting staffed by the Bay’s top three artisanal roasters – Four BarrelRitual and Sightglass. It’s a great way to taste these cult brews side by side and finally figure out which impossibly long coffeehouse line is worth waiting on. Or pick up your favorite beans across the street at Bi-Rite Market(Sunday, drop in hours from 11:30 AM- 1 PM, $12 for the general public, available for pre-purchase online or at the door, 3674 18th St)

Get your red meat on at Bruno’s on Sunday (or the following Monday-Thursday) where 30 Under 30 chef Chris Kronner has expanded his burgermeister service; as of this week he’s ditched the short Friday and Saturday slots (which had to wrap up before the club crowd descended) so the new permanent hours are Sunday-Thursday from 6PM- late. In addition to the namesake Kronnerburgers accompanied by roasted bone marrow, the pop-up will also be slinging crab burgers, no-meat burgers, fries with gravy, plus a handful of cocktails from bartenders Gabriel Lowe and Brandon Presbury. You can also call the BurgerPhone (listed below) to get your grub to go. (Sundays-Thursdays, 2379 Mission St, 415-656-9871)
