After years of parking where they choose, food truck operators in the District of Columbia are preparing to have their spaces assigned by lottery.
Vendors would be required to reserve the parking spots in advance and to lease special signs that inform residents when the spots are reserved. The vendors would also be required to pay the regular parking meter fees.
A food truck will soon be part of the lunch time choices for students at Columbia high schools.
Specialty food trucks have become a staple at community gatherings, art walks, football games and other big events — and, in Miami-Dade, public school campuses.
The business will only be here until October. It has no restrooms, and any “graywater,” usually dishwater, is picked up by a weekly service.
Wilmington city planners may be done fine-tuning proposed regulations that would give food trucks more freedom to operate.
Smoken Pig Express, brings his food cart to the southeast corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Commercial Street on weekdays. He’s not opposed to the ordinance — other than the $250 license fee. He said the fee could force him to move his business to Menasha, which doesn’t charge a fee.
