Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners passed a new food truck ordinance by a vote of 7-1.

According to the city, food trucks are only allowed to set up shop as private caterers or during permitted special events.

In preparation for this weekend's art walk, Wynwood gallery owners have been asking a different question: How valuable is the wildly popular art crawl if the crowds are coming not to buy — or even view — the art, but to drink the free booze?

The city-wide question of where food trucks should operate and under what rules is reaching a fever pitch in Wynwood, just as the next Second Saturday Art Walk approaches.

The national food truck phenomenon has taken Miami by storm. You may have seen them along Biscayne Boulevard or even West Kendall in their big, flashy food trucks serving up inexpensive but delicious gourmet dishes.

Organizers should rent a Port-O-San, or some sort of portable restroom. Most of the truck roundups take place in out-of-the-way locales. When you gotta go, you gotta go, and right now that means you gotta go away from the event altogether. Not smart.

Wynwood Food Truckers Meet Up is the newest food court on the scene, debuting this Saturday from 6 to 11 p.m. The round up is headed by Sakaya Kitchen's chef and owner Richard Hales whose Dim Ssäm à gogo truck sells Asian-inspired, organic comfort food.
