They came, they got kicked out, they found a new home, and now they’ve (temporarily?) lost their new home. Food trucks and Venice’s First Fridays’ rocky relationship continues with word today that Bigfoot Entertainment will not be hosting a parcel of mobile eateries in their parking lot during tonight’s festivities. It seems in this threesome–Bigfoot, the Abbot Kinney Merchants Association (AKMA) and the SoCal Mobile Food Vendors Association–all is not fair in love and fusion tacos.
In a statement released today and published by Squid Ink, Bigfoot says:
Due to what appears to be a miscommunication following a verbal agreement between Bigfoot, the AKMC [sic] and the SoCal MFVA, we will unfortunately not host food trucks on our lot for First Fridays. We hope that in the future the two groups can find a way to co-exist for First Fridays for the benefit of everyone who frequents and appreciates the food trucks.
There will be some trucks at First Fridays tonight, but not on the Bigfoot lot, and not in parking spaces that are off-limits; trucks will be at The Brig (as will a portable toilet), and can “park on the street as long as they’re within 200 feet of an approved restroom.”
The AKMA apparently expressed negative feedback to Bigfoot and the SoCal MFVA. They also learned this week that they would not be granted permits to post “No Parking” signs along Abbot Kinney, according to Venice Patch. What food trucks, if any, who will brave the hostile territory tonight, remains to be seen.
