Boston: Food Trucks in Charlestown Navy Yard

By Sara Brown |

Some new dining options are rolling into several Boston neighborhoods today, as 15 food truck vendors — part of the city’s food truck initiative — start dishing up grilled cheese, BBQ, cupcakes, and other treats.

Charlestown residents can find food trucks in the Charlestown Navy Yard, where Fifth Street intersects Avenue Avenue.

Other food trucks will be in the Fenway/Kenmore area, the Back Bay, the South End, and Ashmont Station. Existing food trucks, including those at City Hall Plaza, will also continue to serve hungry customers.

Boston’s food truck program has designated permanent spots on city streets for food trucks to serve customers from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. (some sites will close earlier, at 9 p.m.).
Charlestown’s food trucks will serve food from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. every day.

Right now, 15 vendors will rotate between the locations.

Looking for a lunch spot? Check out the city’s map of food truck locations, and starting next week, the city will also offer a searchable application that will indicate which trucks are at which locations.

To participate in the program, food trucks were required to put at least one healthy food option (no fried foods, trans-fats, or high-fructose corn syrup) on the menu. The healthy food item also has to include three items from the following list: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy and reduced fat or lean meats that are baked, boiled, or grilled.

The city is also still recruiting new food truck vendors for other sites.
