Cumberland, RI: BBQ food truck set to make pit stop

CUMBERLAND – New England isn’t exactly known for its barbecue, but husband-and-wife team Mike Strout and Janice Sullivan have proven that their venture GottaQ BBQ Food Truck & Catering can hold its own. On Mobile Cuisine’s 2014 list of the best BBQ food trucks in the country, GottaQ ranked third, second only to two Texas trucks.

Now Strout and Sullivan are working fast to open GottaQ Smokehouse BBQ, a brick-and-mortar restaurant in Cumberland.

“Our customers wanted a lot,” Strout said. “They wanted the ability to get barbecue all the time, not just from the food truck.”

The 24-seat restaurant is opening in the Cumberland Plaza Shopping Center between Depault Hardware and Ron’s Barber Stylist Shop, at 2000 Mendon Road, Ste. 7. They’re “shooting for this week, definitely next week,” Strout said.
