Welcome to Eater’s latest feature, Shit People Steal, in which we ask restaurateurs what items in their restaurant have been (or are frequently) stolen.
Good Dog Hot Dogs food truck has had a string of bad luck. First, the gourmet all-natural hot dog servers had to go on hiatus while their truck was in the shop for repairs, secondly, their “top-of-the-line,” brand new generator was stolen on Saturday, just before their White Linen Night appearance. In a series of social media posts, Good Dog announced the details.
Twitter: Some effin asshole just stole our generator while we were gone. Orange & black Generac 15000 watt on a small trailer…
Facebook: Yesterday, our generator was stolen about an hour before White Linen Night. Luckily we are able to plug in at Buchanan’s Plants so we rocked it out. Still not sign of our gen but please keep an eye out for it. Orange & Black Generac 15000W on a 4ft x 4ft black trailer. Thanks for all the support. We love you guys!
While getting your expensive-ass power source stolen is mighty bad news indeed, there is a silver lining. KTRK ran a story on the local news yesterday, giving them city-wide exposure (there’s no such thing as bad publicity, right?) and Good Dog fans showed up in droves for lunch yesterday to show their support and grab a wiener or six.
Owner Daniel Caballero expressed both frustration and gratitude in an interview about the situation, but in the end felt “overwhelmed” by the support of his patrons, telling Eater that it almost made him “choked up” to think about it.
