Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)– Mobile food trucks are giving our area a big city feel. Almost a dozen have popped up in the last year.
It’s something you typically see in a big city or on the food network.
Octavio Gomez- Taco Brothers: “I think people are interested in trying out something new and when they have an opportunity to do so you just have to lock in their taste buds.”
Now Fargo is added to the rebirth of the food truck culture. There are 9 registered food trucks in Cass County alone.
Kyle Hilleren- Moorhead: “It’s something different, they make great food, I enjoy it, nice quick, easy.”
Octavio Gomez with Taco Bro’s owns one of the 9. He’s been dishing out authentic mexican cuisine in Downtown Fargo for about a year.
Gomez: “Tacos, Tostadas, unlike the other taco trucks I do offer tamales, which is a little bit more labor intensive.”
Anthony Verdi is also among the those providing meals on wheels.
Anthony Verdi- Verdis Italian Market: “It’s the avenue to get to the dream of owning a restaurant.”
He’s says other than homemade meat balls made using his grandmothers recipe , it’s the convenience that keeps the hungry customers coming back.
Verdi: “We had a guy yesterday that came to Orileys and he said I wasn’t going to get lunch, but I had to come to Orileys, but there was a lunch truck and he could eat quick.”
So what about the other food businesses around town? You would think the food trucks would be direct competition, but businesses here in Downtown Fargo see it differently.
Jared Puttbrese- Spicy Pie: “It brings more people around because they hear the food truck is around so then they come downtown to eat and it draws more of a crowd to our store.”
If the trend continues you can expect to see more of these mobile kitchens around town in the near future.
Hilleren: “It’s nice to see a couple pop up here in Fargo and you know add something different.”
Food trucks have to follow all of the same health regulations as stand alone restaurants.
