LAS VEGAS (FOX5) – El Cortez Hotel & Casino will host a “Vintage Vegas Foods” Street Food Throwdown on East Fremont Street Friday, July 29 at 8 p.m.
At the event, local street vendors and food trucks will compete to create classic dishes inspired by El Cortez’s Vintage Dining Menu.
The event is fueled by the popularity of El Cortez’s Vintage Menu and stellar reputation for having the premier street vendors and food trucks in downtown Las Vegas.
El Cortez has quickly become downtown Las Vegas’ hotspot for food trucks due to the success of the monthly Vegas StrEATs festival and the property’s Midweek Much event.
There will be multiple food trucks competing in the event to see who can create the best vintage-inspired dish using El Cortez’s Vintage Menu as the model for their new creations.
Bartenders from the El Cortez will also be on hand to stir up drinks from the property’s popular Vintage Cocktail Menu.
El Cortez introduced their Vintage Dining and Vintage Cocktail Menus in 2011 to celebrate the property’s 70th anniversary.
The dining menu draws on classic recipes from around the Las Vegas Valley, including dishes from Sultan’s Table at the Dunes, Delmonico’s at the Riviera, The House of Lords at the Sahara, La Vie en Rose at the Desert Inn and Saver Room at the Aladdin.
The cocktail menu features classic cocktails such as the side car, the mint julep, the blood and sand and the aviation – some of which originated as early as the 1700s.
Celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2011, El Cortez Hotel & Casino is the longest continuously operating hotel-casino in Las Vegas.
The iconic property can be found in historic downtown Las Vegas at 600 East Fremont Street and is the only casino in the city’s burgeoning Fremont East Entertainment District.
With 300 newly remodeled hotel rooms, including four uniquely themed suites that resulted from the 2010 Design A Suite Downtown Contest, El Cortez offers some of the best accommodations in downtown Las Vegas.
In May 2009, the property opened the El Cortez Cabana Suites, a 64-room boutique hotel offering vintage South Beach style in the heart of downtown.
The casino features full-pay 3-2 single deck blackjack, 10 times odds on craps, state-of-the-art roulette and more than 1,000 slot machines.
El Cortez also offers a full range of sports betting options in the casino Sports Book.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal voted El Cortez “Best Downtown Hotel” in 2009; “Best Blackjack in Las Vegas” in 2007 and from 2009-2011; “Best Video Poker” in 2008 and “Best Keno in Las Vegas” from 2005-2006 and 2008-2011.
Dining options at El Cortez include: Café Cortez, the property’s 24-hour diner; The Flame Steakhouse, a vintage favorite among Las Vegas locals serving the finest steaks and freshest seafood; and Gambling Gourmet, a delicious menu of casino favorites served game side to players.
The property’s other amenities include: Subway, Dreyer’s Ice Cream Shop, Seattle’s Best Coffee, El Cortez Gift Shop and a full-service beauty and barber shop.
