NORTH MIAMI — North Miami commissioners are attempting to crack down on food trucks, which have been operating without city fees or permits. They have proposed an ordinance that would require food truck operators to obtain licenses and special permits, as well as pay a $167 annual fee, and a one-time $50 background check fee.The rising popularity of food trucks in the last few months has brought concerns to both residents and government officials. Last month, the Miami-Dade commission passed an ordinance for several parts of the county that required 80 percent of residents within 1,000 feet of a food truck round-up to approve the event before it can be held. That ruling didn’t affect the city of Miami or North Miami, because they are each governed by city law.North Miami commissioners will take up their new ordinance on the next meeting on July 12.
