National News: NYCFTA & Jetblue Food Truck Outreach

By STAFF | MobileFoodNews.com

The NYC Food Truck Association is coordinating a relief effort in collaboration with Jetblue Airways to bring self-sufficient food trucks to areas of NYC without power that have been affected by super storm Sandy.  This give away will take place on November 2, 2012 from 12 noon to 4pm.  The following trucks are participating in this charitable outreach:  Andy’s Italian Ice, Big D’s Grub, Coolhaus, Cupcake Crew, Eddies Pizza, Frites n Meats, Mexico Blvd, Milk Truck, Rickshaw, Sweetery, Toum, and Wafels & Dinges.  As a group, these 12 trucks will be providing 11,000 free meals to New Yorkers at seven sites in Manhattan and Brooklyn that are currently without power.  You can see all the trucks and locations below:

Jetblue is a big fan of food trucks.  Their LIC food truck lot (which is closed for the season), was well frequented by Jetblue employees due to its proximity to the Jetblue headquarters.  Jetblue were sponsors of the Vendy Awards in NYC and the NYC/BOS food truck throwdown in October (http://www.foodtruckthrowdown.com).  Because our members are mobile and self sufficient, we have the capacity to help those affected by Sandy.  However, many food trucks are small businesses and don’t have the resources to give all that is needed.  This is a great partnership that will give food trucks the ability to serve hot food in affected areas of NYC on a meaningful scale.
