Jersey City says there are too many portable food vendor licenses and former health inspector Joseph Castagna has been charged with issuing them and the pocketing the money.
Food truck owners we spoke to were all aware of the "roach coach" stigma associated with their business, but they all say they are working to change that by offering a variety of clean and safe food.
"They are hard to enforce and full of violations." says Zoning official and building inspector Nick Saluzzi.
The foods that will be at "Lunch Truck It" include Italian food, gourmet burgers, vegetarian cuisine, homemade candy and more.
A hot dog vendor whose mobile food cart was shut down this winter because of a zoning violation has decided to close up shop for good.
The City Council voted this month to place a 45-day moratorium on new permits for mobile vendors, to allow time to flesh out that plan.
The couple says they went through the appropriate hoops to properly license the trucks early last year. Excise and licensing, they say, gave them the go-ahead.
The dream of mobile food trucks operating on the streets of Chicago took a big step toward reality back in July.
King County says keeping tabs on these rolling businesses means making sure food carts are inspected once a year and food trucks three times a year at least.
