Making you a burger “You can’t refuse.”

I am a food truck groupie.

I love following different food trucks, receiving the texts and tweets on my phone to find them. From shaved ice trucks, to bacon-inspired dishes, I love to see the culinary creations whipped up on these mobile restaurants. The food truck craze sweeping the nation is often featured on the Travel Channel and Food Network. Plenty of these shows feature Southern California unique eateries – many of which end up in our area.

Several nights each week food trucks are parked on Foothill Boulevard in La Crescenta, just in front of the Ralph’s parking lot. I recently was introduced to Da Burger Boss food truck, which left my friends, neighbors and even my husband raving about these hamburgers.

I was thinking, ‘It’s a burger-right? What new ideas can someone really do with a burger?’ Then, I drove to to try one.

Tables and chairs were placed on the sidewalk for a more comfortable food truck dining experience. Often if I’m eating a food truck meal while standing up pieces fall and sauce splatters on the ground. Then I heard the unmistakable voice of yes, Frank Sinatra, singing Fly Me to the Moon.

As if this wasn’t enough to set them aside from other food trucks, a man named Ozzy sporting a fabulous tuxedo t-shirt, complete with a red silk-screened rose on his lapel, told me about their menu.

“Granada Hills is our main location,” Ozzy, my waiter, said. “But we love to come to La Crescenta. We pride ourselves on our unique burgers and our A-rating.”

There are eight different Mafia-inspired burgers to choose from with titles including “The Boss,” “The Patrolman” and “Mexican Mafia.” There is also the “Anti Carnivoro” burger, a vegetarian burger with portabella mushrooms, roasted red peppers, mozzarella, sun dried tomatoes, pesto, garlic cheese and basil piled on.

I kept hearing reviews about the “Patrolman,” a burger served in a glazed, sliced donut instead of a bun. Topped with freshly melted bleu cheese, bacon, and covered with an allspice cranberry apple reduction sauce. This burger is nothing short of amazing and possibly nothing short of a heart attack. The cranberry apple reduction sauce makes the burger and is a perfect complement to the sugar-covered donut. My husband enjoyed the “Strong Arm” which is served on a bun that resembles an English muffin, slammed with bleu cheese but comes with a balsamic onion reduction sauce. Toss in some matchstick fries and gourmet dipping sauces then you have a meal fit for a “Boss.”
