Officials helped break ground Monday on a new facility they hope might send a fleet of new dining options speeding to the city's streets.

Sixty-eight food truck operators are spread out across Columbus Commons, offering a wide variety of Ohio-grown and produced foods that you normally find in a restaurant, but can enjoy outside.

Saturday afternoon Beds By Design had food trucks and inflatables open to the public for the Foods for Fosters event. The proceeds are going towards PATH Inc, a non-profit that works with high-need children in foster care.

“It was time for a change,” he said. “I’ve stepped into a new realm of food hospitality. It’s an incredible learning experience. I get to influence the food that’s going out.”

Gussy’s Place will serve some of the same foods as the truck – gyros, soups, falafel, stuffed grape leaves, pita and hummus, Greek fries with lemon, oregano and sea salt, and baklava – along with daily specials of authentic Greek dishes like lasagna, meatballs, pizza and quiche.

The sixth annual Waffle-Off Championship and Brunch is “part waffle contest, part potluck and all fun,” according to organizer Paul Van Heden, who has scheduled the event for Sunday, March 29, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Asheville Commissary.
