Regulations make it difficult for them to operate

The city is drafting legislation to expand food truck pilot program, which expires March 31.

Most members of New Westminster city council like the idea of bringing food trucks to the city – as long as it doesn’t take a bite out of local business.

The East Hampton Village Board is considering allowing vendors to sell food and beverages in the parking areas at the two beaches between March 16 and Dec. 1. A hearing on the change was held on Friday and was left open for two weeks to solicit written comments from the public.

The City of Edmonton said it had issued 149 food vendor permits as of June 30, but the total includes trucks, carts and trailers. City communications adviser Karen Burgess said she believes food trucks accounted for about 70 of those permits.

The food truck set up Tuesday for the first time in two weeks. It had been ordered to close after the city determined it was operating on public property. BB's had only been using the spot for about a week.
