A food truck was the perfect answer -- especially for Scala, whose degree in political science wasn't helping him to find full-time work. Since Sauced Up hit the streets, the duo say they've been doing well with a menu serving two American staples: burgers and wings.

Get a taste of tennis next week when the US Open launches a food truck offering free samples of lobster rolls, sliders and tacos.

The menu is simple: two sliders for $7 or a sandwich for $8 ($7.75 for the meatless options). There are 6 options to choose from including the classic beef meatball with house tomato sauce, shaved parmesan and basil.

Food trucks are practically a requirement at a Southern California event and eight of the mobile restaurants are parked near the shoreline to wait for hungry Long Beach Grand Prix fans.

The service was quick and friendly, the menu simple: mostly sandwiches and fries. We got a milanesa and a pair of lamb sliders.

Shimmy Shack’s menu includes three cooked sliders – black bean and rice burger with guacamole, a falafel burger with garlic sauce and a classic American cheese(lentil)burger – as well as a raw vegan Rueben, a delicious walnut burger on onion bread with thousand island dressing and sauerkraut," according to a press release

They have 14(!) different types of sliders to choose from on the menu, each named after an American city. You get 3 sliders of your choice and a side of fries for $10. There are 5 different types of fries to choose from too.

Traveling far and wide, to San Jose and beyond, Babaloo appearances can be slightly, well, erratic. So if you run across a jungle scene on wheels, don't skip it for some flashy deep-fried Twinkies drizzled with Sriracha. You can get any day.

At the farmers market's return to River Street, evidence of spring was abundant. Vendors sold tender pea shoots, fresh herbs, broccoli and Brussels sprouts — root vegetables were no longer the star.

Though the food is tasty, the prices are a little much, as The Butcher’s Son asks college students to dish out a nice chunk of change for some of their dishes. They also don’t offer a real “combo” deal – The Butcher’s 3-Way – but one that equates to the same price as ordering three separate sliders.
