Food trucks offer unconventional options Thursdays at OC Fairgrounds.

“The food that I get here is so much better than most places I go to,” said John Berea, who follows his favorite trucks all over town.

The ice cream truck, owned by King Kone Ice Cream Company, also is unique because it was recently rated as one of the top five best food trucks in Los Angeles by AOL Travel.

Not only do food trucks provide "great food at reasonable prices," but they create a spontaneous social hub that draws scores of people to an area, said Matt Geller, CEO of the Southern California Mobile Food Vendors Association.

Their bus, which will get rolling with a soft opening this week, will employ local teens and young adults engaged in social change work. Profits from the mobile eatery -- which promises a mean pimento cheese and bacon sandwich -- will help fund community projects.

Many food truck companies are now putting detailed maps on their websites that show where a food truck is in real-time.

This business venture and food truck is always on the prowl for new customers throughout the Chicago land. The food truck is Kuri's office and she’s the head baker, driver and cashier for the Sweet Ride food truck that graced the streets of Northbrook on Saturday.

Sidewalk cafes and street musicians, certain small amenities... We think it’s time to add mobile food trucks to the list.
